Management Team

We believe China has a very distinct investment environment in itself where not only a complete reassessment of the investment and management approach is necessary, but to be successful and sustainable, a much higher level of scrutiny and management techniques would also be required as opposed to those in other economies.

Our investment team consists of 15 investment professionals and is headed by Managing and Founding Partners Wang Qi and Mark Kooijman. Unlike many of our peers, the core of our team members is made up of native Chinese (that were born and educated in China) with solid finance background and hands-on business operating experiences in China. Aside from one analyst, DPG has been consciously trying to avoid employing "traditional" Western professionals whom in our view would have limited rapport with our target segment of the Chinese middle-market entrepreneurs. We also have designated departments handling different areas as in our view, the common "one deal manager" model would not be adequate in the investing environment in China.

DPG has extensive experience sourcing and executing investment transactions in China and the team members together have more than 50 years of experience investing and doing businesses in China, which is fairly unique due to the short history of the private equity industry in China. Through its strong connections and knowledge of Chinese business and financial landscape, the team was able to - despite our short history - quickly build out an impressive investment portfolio and gain substantial market recognition.

Other distinguishing characteristics of the team:

(i) Solid debt and equity background - the team has expertise in equity and fixed income products which enables DPG to structure investments using techniques available from both asset classes;

(ii) Strong investment research team - a team of equity and credit analysts led by an Institutional Investor ranked, 17 year veteran China analyst; and

(iii) Efficient team execution - as opposed to most other funds where one investment manager reviews one transaction; members from different departments within DPG are involved in executing a transaction which allows each part of the investment process to be handled by in-house experts.
