Development Principles Group

Our Investors

Currently, our anchor investors are the Dutch development bank (“FMO”), Deutsche Investitions - und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH ("DEG"), Societe de Promotion et de Participation pour la Cooperation Economique ("Proparco"), and Itochu Corporation ("Itochu").

The former three are respectively the Dutch, German and French development agencies (collectively the "European Development Finance Institutions"). Aside from being anchor investors, it is the intention that the European Development Finance Institutions will actively support our portfolio companies with short-term and especially long-term mezzanine and debt facilities. In addition, technical assistance grants may be made available to further enhance know-how and expertise in underperforming areas of a company. The ultimate goal of DPG and its partners is to be able to offer a complete financial and support package for the portfolio company, to rationalize the balance sheet and improve operations so as to ensure a smooth listing process or attraction of a strategic investor both of which will be exit opportunities.

Itochu, established in 1949 in Japan, is one the largest trading companies in the world with a specific focus on consumer products and general merchandise such as textile and machinery, energy sources, chemical and food and agricultural products. The company has been operating in China since 1972 and made its first strategic investment in 1978. Over the years, Itochu has made over 250 strategic investments in China across a range of different industries and geographic regions. It is the intention of both DPG and Itochu to seek strategic business and trade advantages among its corporate portfolios to enhance revenues and thereby valuations. Furthermore, DPG aims to leverage off Itochu's industrial and technical expertise and business connections in China. Itochu is highly selective when investing in a private equity team as it prefers to support its in-house principal investment team. Nonetheless, Itochu has become a strong supporter of DPG in both Fund I and Fund II.
